Standing committees shall perform all duties assigned to them by the
Constitution and By-laws and such additional duties as they may be directed to
perform from time to time by the President, The Executive Board and the
Membership. All Standing committees shall have at least 5 members and all
Standing Committee memberships shall expire at every General election.
Duties of all Standing Committees are as
follows:
Set-up and established to oversee all UAW Local 863 elections and votes.
Constitution and Bylaws Committee - Jim Siuda
(a) To study the Constitution of the International Union and
these Bylaws to
formulate and recommend changes or
amendments of the Constitution or the
Bylaws to the Membership.
Election Committee - Mary B. Phillips
The regular Standing Election Committee shall consist of five
(5) Members. All shall be nominated and elected of a special or regular General
Membership Meeting. The next three (3) highest runners-up shall be duly-elected
alternates and shall serve in that sequence, if necessary to fill a vacancy on
the Election Committee.
Union Label Committee
- Dale Arthur
(a) To promote the purchase of Union-made goods and
merchandise by the
Membership of the Local and to keep
them informed as to Union-made
merchandise and services.
Education Committee
- Quentin Calhoun
(a) The Local Union shall set aside a separate fund of two
(.02) cents per
month per dues-paying Member to
finance the educational
activities of the Local Union.
(b) To arrange and have charge of all education activities
for the
Membership.
(c) To set up a Labor Library with suitable material.
(d) To furnish upon request by the Local union, speakers
literature,
teachers and films.
(e) To assist and work in conjunction with editors of the
Local Union paper.
Community Services Committee
- Teri Jones
(a) To investigate and assist all members in distress, and
make a request
and recommendation to the Executive
Board.
(b) To inform the Local Union to provide a floral offering
and Bible for the
funeral of any deceased Member.
(c) Shall assist the deceased Member's family, if at all
possible.
(d) Shall participate in the Strike Assistance Program.
Citizenship and Legislative Committee
- Wendell Scott
(a) To analyze Labor Legislation and keep the Membership
informed thereof.
(b) To ascertain the qualifications of political candidates
and inform
Members on the issues of Local, State
and Federal elections.
(c) To investigate and approve all political petitions before
they are
permitted to be circulated by the
Local Union.
(d) To encourage all Members to register and vote at all
public elections
and, if necessary, to appoint
subcommittees to achieve this end.
(e) To see that proper steps are taken to inform Local,
State and Federal
officials of the Local's decision,
recommendations, protests and
endorsements.
(f) To advise the Membership of pending legislation or
action, or organize
effective protests, endorsements or
other action among Members of the Local
Union.
(g) To see that all literature pamphlets, placards and other
political
material issued by the International
Union and the Local Union are properly
and effectively distributed among
Members and others.
Conservation and Recreation Committees
- Fred Taylor
(a) A recreation fund shall be set up and 1 ½ % of each dues
payment will be
set aside for a conservation and
recreation fund as per the International
Constitution.
(b) It is recognized by the Local Union that adequate
recreational
facilities and programs should be
available to the Members.
(c) Shall supervise and direct the conservation and
recreational activities
of the Local.
(d) Shall arrange and make available facilities for
recreational purposes.
(e) Shall be responsible for the care and preservation of the
property used
for recreational purposes with the
approval of the Trustees.
(f) Only Members in good standing shall be permitted to
participate in any
athletic activity under the insignia
of the Local Union.
(g) Shall arrange, plan and supervise all social events and
activities of
the Local Union.
Civil & Human Rights Committee
- David Day
(a) Shall promote fair employment practices and endeavor to
eliminate
discrimination affecting the welfare
of the individual Members of the Local
Union.
Consumer Affairs Committee
- Bill Hickman
(a) Shall promote a better understanding of consumer problems
among Local
Members and the community. Will seek
consumer representation on appropriate
local government and voluntary
bodies. Will strive to mobilize support when
requested by the Area CAP Council on
legislation affecting consumers.
Veteran's Committee
- Dick Forste & Shay Bayless
(a) Shall endeavor to keep veterans and their families
advised of existing
laws and law changes that apply
primarily to veterans' rights and benefits.
Women's Committee
- Debbie Swope-Johnson
(a) To encourage female participation in Local Union
activities and to
advise all Local Members of services
available that are designed to meet the
needs primarily confined to working
women.
